The women of Stony Run have volunteered to plan and organize the 2011 BYM Women’s Retreat. Our Committee is already working and you will hear more in the future. Stony Run’s men will hold a retreat on April 16-18 at Camp Catoctin.
Other activities include our Celebration of Membership breakfast, frequent Extended Family activities, our weekly Simple Lunch, and we hosted a meeting of the FGC outreach committee recently.
Two members of Indian Affairs (joint with Homewood) recently observed a “ministry of presence” at the Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) meeting in Reisterstown in our concern for disavowal of the “Doctrine of Discovery” and for affirmation of the “UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.” In January, the Meeting Clerk appealed, on behalf of the Meeting, to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice for relief of burdens and accommodation of a Native American religious organization at C T Terrell Unit in Rosharon, TX.
We have lately received a reply from the chairman of the board that we understand to be acknowledgment and agreement of “accommodation in principle” for Indian inmates there. With this assurance in hand, we look forward to fulfillment, to “accommodation in fact.”
